Groundwater Recharge Regimes Are in Flux: 2026 Darcy Lecture in Bend

OSU-Cascades, Ray Hall Atrium, 1500 SW Chandler Ave, Bend, OR 97702

The Deschutes River Conservancy is pleased to co-host the 2026 Darcy Lecture with Dr. Steven Loheide of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Loheide is an ecohydrologist and Distinguished Professor of Water Resources Engineering. His research looks at how ecological and hydrological processes interact, with a focus on groundwater.

His talk, Groundwater Recharge Regimes are in Flux, will explain how water moves from the land surface down to the aquifer, and why the amount varies so much with soil, weather, and vegetation. Using case studies, groundwater level data, and modeling, he will show how changes in climate and land use are shifting recharge rates, and what that means for managing groundwater well over the long term.

Co-hosts: OSU-Cascades, Central Oregon Community College, Deschutes River Conservancy, Oregon Water Resources Department, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
