Give to the Flow: Help the Deschutes When It Matters Most
At the DeschutesRiver Conservancy (DRC), we know that every drop of water counts—especially during Central Oregon’s hot, dry summers. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Avion Water on the Blue Water Program, a simple yet powerful way for community members to make a lasting difference in the health of our rivers and streams.
What Is Blue Water?
Blue Water is a monthly donor program that allows Avion Water customers to contribute directly to the DRC’s instream leasing work. These small monthly donations—often less than $2—support the restoration of streamflows in Tumalo Creek and the Deschutes River by compensating landowners who voluntarily leave water in the stream rather than using it for irrigation.
These instream leases are critical. They protect up to 25% of the streamflow below major diversions, increasing flows during the summer months when rivers need it most. More water in the stream means lower water temperatures, improved habitat for fish and wildlife, and better water quality for all.
The Impact: By the Numbers
Since its inception, Blue Water donors have contributed over $214,692, helping protect an estimated 15.98 billion gallons of water between 2007 and 2024. That’s the equivalent of:
- Filling over 7,700 Olympic-sized swimming pools
- Keeping the flow of 1,707 shower heads running at once
- Supporting healthier flows in over 166 miles of the Deschutes River
From 2020 to 2024 alone, Blue Water restored over 5 billion gallons of water to Tumalo Creek and the Deschutes River. The instream leasing, along with large scale conservation by Tumalo Irrigation District means a creek that once went dry during irrigation season now has healthy flows.

Whether you choose to give at the Spotted Frog level ($1.60/month) or become a River Otter donor ($6.40/month), your contribution translates directly into water protection. For every dollar donated, the Blue Water program protects an average of 76,500 gallons of water instream. It’s a powerful return on a modest monthly investment
